Nina’s, Networks, and A journey home
23 December 2007
Friday 14 December: Called to see Nina Hole... Her cottage is built on a small hillside. Nina and Larry have created a studio and workspaces below ground, but with large windows letting in light from excavated areas of the garden... Nina makes the most amazing fire sculptures and beautiful sculptural ceramics, including her house forms. I was very taken with some of her works in progress
Well had all good intentions of putting some stuff up last week, but time just evaporated and now its the Sunday before Christmas... Oh well....
Nina and Larry’s home in Ørslev, near Skælskør, Denmark
See her web site: www.ninahole.com
On Friday I also visited my tile supplier, Karsten Poulsen at SG trading, at Eggerslevmagle, just outside Skælskør. His showroom is always an amazing place to visit, beautiful porcelain tiles alongside kitsch in excess....
Saturday dawned bright and clear, a welcome relief from the cold greyness that had enveloped the place for days.. 1 bike ride later, some nice pics...
Stigsnæs coal power station from Sælskør harbour
Assorted pics and a short movie of bobbing coots in the Skælskør harbour...
Later came the preview of the exhibition created by Network 2007. One of the reasons for being at Guldagergård was that November/December is the time that the center hosts a residency/network project for new graduates, and I was one of the guest artists, giving a few lectures (Making a Living as an Artist, Postgraduate Research and Ceramics and Print) and a workshop. The Network is an opportunity for new graduates to work independently, but also collaboratively towards a group show with other ceramists from different European Institutions (this time the network was mainly MA graduates from KHIB Bergen, Design School Copenhagen, Royal College London and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam). Some images below of Anders Gydum’s work, (especially for Amy).. some more of the group another day..

Very early Monday morning...(5.00am start) gave Anders a lift back to Amsterdam on my way home, including three huge boxes of Royal Copenhagen shards.... long but uneventful journey, much more pleasant than the journey to Guldagergård, as the sun shone, and the traffic was not so busy...
